“The Devil Made Me Do It”
Genesis 3:1-7
It’s easy to blame someone else for us succumbing to temptations especially the Devil since most people don’t like him to begin with. There’s no doubt that he is like a roaring lion always seeking someone to devour. But blaming even the devil doesn’t get us off the hook. The first Adam was tempted and yielded; the second Adam (Jesus was tempted and resisted. Every temptation promises immediate gratification without consideration of future consequences.
I. The Source of Temptation (The Devil)
a. His Wrath (Rev. 12:12).
b. His method.
1. Doubt God
2. Disobey God
c. His limitation (I Cor. 10:13; James 4:7).
II. The Seriousness of Temptation (Gen. 2:16-17)
a. Yielding to temptation will cause us guilt (3:7).
b. Yielding to temptation will cause us to “hide” from God.
c. Yielding to temptation will cause us to lose fellowship with God (Gen. 3:23-24).
III. The Solution to Temptation
a. Resist (James 4:7).
b. Retreat (I Cor. 6:18; 10:14; I Tim. 6:11; 2 Tim. 2:22).
c. Revival (James 4:8).
